Who’d have thought in the current climate of UK radio, with the possible prospect of 6 Music closing down and further networking in commercial radio, that there would be a station playing nothing but unsigned music?
That station is Amazing Radio, and what’s more it’s available on DAB Digital Radio across the UK, and also worldwide at amazingradio.co.uk.
From Sunday (July 4) I’m going to be presenting a weekly showcase on the station.
The great thing about Amazing Radio is that it ties in brilliantly with the amazingtunes.com website… already a fantastic platform for exciting new talent.
I first came across amazingtunes when I was hosting the goNorth Stage at Rockness a couple of years ago… The winners of amazingtunes‘ Sound 08 competition secured a slot on the stage. That band were Spokes, who are now set to release their debut album through Ninja Tune offshoot Counter Records.
Amazing Radio takes the whole concept of amazingtunes one step higher, and sort of legitimises what’s on offer on the site. These tracks are actually getting played on proper radio, rather than just being heard by other bands, which can often be the case with similar sites.
You can hear my new show Sunday afternoons 3-4pm and again Tuesday nights at 6 and Thursdays at 1pm. On the first show (July 4) I’ll be joined by Pearl from Pearl and the Puppets selecting tracks from amazingtunes.com, while on July 11 I’ll be chatting to rising star Coco Sumner AKA I Blame Coco.
